In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Khaled Elfiqi, Michael Reisch, film simulations, the iPad Mini, the Sigma 70mm f2.8 Art macro lens, a free Lightroom reference guide, Nikon menus, Rollei and Black History Month.
- Egyptian photojournalist Khaled Elfiqi presents his other-worldly images of The Inselbergs of Egypt's White Desert.
- German photographer Michael Reisch argues Photography Is a Political Issue. "I take away a layer from the things we see every day," he tells Stephanie Wade. "This layer is the layer of actuality or of what is happening right now, which gives the viewer the possibility to see different things."
- In Fujifilm Film Simulations JPEG vs. Capture One From a Raw File, Kevin Raber compares the Capture One curves to the built-in camera simulations. Judge for yourself.
- In The iPad Mini for On-the-Go Photographers, Derrick Story describes how the diminutive tablet is just right for much of what he has to do. He also lists his go-to apps. "Considering that this device fits just about anywhere, I'm impressed with how versatile it is," he writes.
- In A Review of a 'Working' Lens, Kirk Tuck discusses the Sigma 70mm f2.8 Art macro lens he bought Friday to scan his 1984 Kodachrome of Ann Richards.
- Julieanne Kost updates her Lightroom Classic Tips, Shortcuts, and Quick Reference Guide. The free PDF is "33 pages of my favorite tips, tricks and keyboard shortcuts for Lightroom Classic." And she was being "as concise as possible."
- In Nikon's Epic Fail on the Little Things, Terry White takes on the Nikon Z menu system. He suggests Nikon add a search feature with auto-complete so you don't have to hunt down a feature through the various sections. There ought to be a law requiring that on every camera.
- Rosie Torres pays homage to Rollei and the Rolleiflex with a little history and some historic images taken of and by the camera.
- In Adobe Celebrates Black History Month, the company lists its efforts to "honor the Black community by celebrating Black creativity past, present and future."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
