We stepped out the side door just after noon to run down to the Post Office. Along the fence, we noticed our garlic in full flower but also saw, to our surprise, some new cala lilies. The Post Office would have to wait (delays are something it's good at).
We popped a +10 macro converter to the front of the 14-42mm Micro Four Thirds lens on the Olympus E-PL1 whose EVF swivels up so we wouldn't have to lie flat on the ground to shoot the garlic.
The wind was blowing but even at f7.1 and ISO 200 we managed to shoot at 1/800 second so you can't tell.
What we didn't appreciate at the time was the "color grading" the warm paint on the side of the house was casting on these plants in the shade. These all have a warm cast we find quite appealing. It gives them an antique feeling that goes well with the graceful curves of the plants.
We did double our usual Lightroom Clarity setting and ran the Texture setting up to where our Clarity is usually set. Very extreme. Soft would have worked but we wanted to extract as much detail as we could from these close ups.
We took the camera with us to the Post Office, shooting some blossoms and buds along the way, all nature's mysteries unfolding.
But we thought these stood well alone. As they do at the foot of the fence along the side of our house.
