Capture One 21 Update Released Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

9 March 2021

Phase One has updated Capture One 21, its Raw data image editor, with new features, camera and lens support, plus a few bug fixes. Version 14.1.0 is available for download now.

We've been working with the beta version of this release and did find the new Style Brushes feature convenient.

We use Image Capture to import files from our cards so the new Import Viewer itself wasn't germane to our workflow.

And while it may not affect many, it's important to note that this is the last release that will support JPEG 2000 and JPEG XR.

HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of the new release include:

  • Style Brushes apply local adjustments directly to the image without having to create a special layer and manually set the adjustments. When you first stroke on the image, a corresponding Adjustment Layer is created with the adjustments embedded in the Style Brush as well as its name.
  • Import Viewer allows sorting of images directly in the importer for fast culling using keyboard shortcuts, eliminating the need to later delete unwanted images from the Catalog or Session.
  • Additional ProStandard Profiles for the Canon 1D X/Mk II/Mk III, 5DS, 6D/Mk II, 7D/Mk II, R, SX70 HS; Nikon D5, D500, D610, D700, D7000, D7100, D7200, D800, D800E; Olympus E-M1 Mk II; Sony a1, a6400, a6500, a6600, a7 M2, a9/M2
  • Leica Live-View with zoom and pan for the SL, SL2, S, S3.

Among the improvements in the new version are:

  • New methods of linking Brush Settings with two new tick boxes for linking Brush Settingsr, making it easy to switch between Layers of different purposes without having to adjust the Brush Settings manually for every Layer.
  • Link Eraser with Brush allows Brush Settings to be kept the same when switching from any Brush (Adjustment, Heal, or Clone) to the Eraser Brush.
  • Improved visibility of Keystone Tool with thicker lines, making it easier to see on all images.
  • Viewer max zoom increased from 400 percent to 1600 percent.
  • Capture One 21 (14.1.0) also contains smaller user experience changes, general bug fixes and under-the-hood tweaks.

There are also a couple of changes:

  • Eizo Calibration (beta) has been removed
  • This is the last version to support JPEG 2000 and JPEG XR. When support is removed with the next update, you will no longer be able to view, edit or export to these formats. Existing Process Recipes using these formats will automatically migrate to uncompressed 16-bit TIFF to avoid any unwanted loss of quality.

NEW CAMERA SUPPORT

Support has been added for the Fujifilm GFX 100S/X-E4, Sony a1, Canon SX70 HS and Panasonic GX800/GX850/GX880/GF10/GF90/GF9.

In addition a number of macOS and Windows bug fixes have been implemented. They're detailed in the release notes.
