In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Joy, the Alpha Female Award, Kate Powell, zooms, a Gobe adapter, retesting and lateral skills.
- In Anne Geddes Was the Original Baby-Picture Influencer, Sarah Lyall profiles the photographer famous for her photography books of infants in pea pods and flower beds. Instagram dampened that business but the pandemic inspired a new project she calls Joy. "The idea was straightforward: solicit baby photographs from parents around the world, in a sort of open casting call, so that Geddes could post them in her own Instagram stories," Lyall writes.
- The World Photography Organization has published the winner and short list for its Alpha Female Award 2021. The first image by Italian photographer Adriana Colombo is the winner.
- Heidi Volpe talks to Kate Powell about her composite surfing image. "The final composite is comprised of 29 separate photos, chosen from 1,500 and stitched together to create one seamless photograph," she says.
- Kirk Tuck lists the four Zoom Lenses Am I Currently Using and one he'd like to buy.
- Derrick Story explains How I Adapted My Pentax HD Lenses to a Fujifilm Camera. His 21mm becomes a 32mm and his 70mm becomes 105mm to go with a Fujifilm 27 that provides a 40mm crop. He found a Gobe adapter that provides the aperture control that the Pentax-K adapter doesn't.
- In Fujifilm 110/2, 80/1.7 Slanted Edge Testing, Jim Kasson retests two lenses after "strange" results with the Siemans star test. "Good data obtained quickly is infinitely superior to bad data that comes easily," he writes.
- Dave Williams discovers photography provides some Lateral Skills applicable to his Mercedes van rebuild. Like attention to detail.
