25 March 2021

Sigma has introduced the Sigma fp L, which it claims is "the world's smallest and lightest 61-Mp full-frame mirrorless camera." The same size as the Sigma fp, the new camera offers a high-resolution image sensor, an improved hybrid autofocus system and continuous power capability.

"The Sigma fp is one of the most innovative cameras available today and the new fp L brings even more to the table," says Sigma America President Mark Amir-Hamzeh. "It offers incredibly high resolution in an extremely small body, compatibility with an extensive library of lenses, limitless customizability and the rock-solid build quality that professionals have come to expect from Sigma."

The fp L introduces a continuous power feature via USB-C to handle extended recording times, helpful when shooting a time-lapse, extended clips or using the camera as a webcam. A single SD card slot is complemented by support for recording directly to USB-C-connected hard drives.

The new body also relies on a Bayer array, with a low-pass filter to suppress moire, rather than the Foveon sensor Sigma has preferred. With only an electronic shutter, the body is more compact with no shutter shake at speeds up to 1/800 second but flash sync is only 1/15 second.

The optional EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder offers bright eye-level monitoring with a 0.5-inch, 3.68m-dot OLED panel featuring 0.83x magnification and a 21mm eyepoint. It tilts 90° upwards after connecting to the fp L's left side ports using a 1/4"-20 threaded mount. It also has its own USB Type-C port as well as a 3.5mm headphone port for audio monitoring.
