In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at JB Forbes, Tropico Photo, portraiture, a $30 manual star tracker, Jan Bell and Lynn Goldsmith.
- The Photos of JB Forbes is a tribute to the photojournalist retiring after 45 years on the job. "Although I never knew his name, I'm amazed by how many of these photographs I know," Mike Johnston writes in his piece citing the tribute.
- In this short video titled Global Creators: Tropico Photo, Forrest Aguar and Michelle Norris invite you into their Atlanta studio to see how turn industrial backgrounds into vibrant, colorful sets for their photography.
- Kirk Tuck reflects on the demands of Photographic Portraiture compared to other photographic processes. He typically takes 100 frames of a single pose for a headshot, and explains why.
- Nico Carver explains how to make a Manual Star Tracker for $30. Then he takes some two-minute exposures with a Canon Rebel and Rokinon 24mm lens to show how it works:
- Kevin Raber posted his 45-minute Conversation With Jan Bell about "his work and what is behind it."
- Larry Neumeister reports U.S. News New York Copyright Music Andy Warhol Visual Arts Courts Prince U.S. Court Sides With Photographer in Fight Over Warhol Art. "The New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the artwork created by Warhol before his 1987 death was not transformative and could not overcome copyright obligations to photographer Lynn Goldsmith," he writes. "It returned the case to a lower court for further proceedings."
