In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at FEP awards, Gaudenz Danuser, 150,000 Hearts, Don McCullin, a Fujifilm X-S10 with 27mm lens, strange things, three superzooms, Brooks Jensen and backing up to APFS volumes.

  • The Federation of European Photographer Awards have been announced after receiving over 2,600 images more than 300 photographers in 25 countries.
  • Freelance photographer Gaudenz Danuser focuses on Alpine Fragments, concentrating on the structures of the glacial landscapes that are centuries old. "My goal was to realize an imagery of the glaciers from an unusual perspective, with the intention of capturing abstract pictures with graphic structures," he says.
  • Grace Ebert presents images by Henri Calderon of a wall along the Thames with 150,000 Hearts representing the lives lost to coronavirus. It's across the river from the Houses of Parliament.
  • Mark Durden reviews the Tate Liverpool Don McCullin Retrospective. "From the outset his interest and affinity has been with the way in which ordinary people are caught up in historical events," he writes.
  • Derrick Story likes the combination of his Fujifilm X-S10 With 27mm Lens. Just one problem. "The problem is that Fujifilm isn't providing a bundle for the X-S10 and 27mm, so you have to buy them separately at regular price," he writes.
  • In Latest Strange Things Written, Thom Hogan evaluates a few more questionable declarative sentences floating on the Web.
  • Dan Havlik lists The Top Three Superzoom Cameras. We'll save you clicking through the unnecessarily paginated list of just three cameras as a public service: Nikon Coolpix B600, Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 II and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV. In that order.
  • Kevin Raber has posted a video of his 1:19:44 Conversation With Brooks Jensen of LensWork Magazine. "He has bought a big pickup truck and travel trailer and he is going to hit the road and live in his trailer," Raber reports. "He plans to publish LensWork from the road and as long as he can connect to the Internet, he will be doing his daily job but with a new view outside his window each day."
  • In Should You Back Up to APFS or HFS?+ Howard Oakley a new feature in Big Sur in which Time Machine can backup to APFS volumes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
