In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at portraits, parakeets, giving back, a loupe, shooting sports, Python film simulations and macOS installers.
- The Guardian presents a few winners of the LensCulture Portrait Awards. And LensCulture itself takes a deep dive into one of them in Synchronised Swimming by Eva Watkins.
- Alan Taylor celebrates The Parakeets of London with 18 photos. Urban ornithology is a thing, you know. San Franciscans, for example, have long followed our flocks of wild parrots screeching through the city.
- Ellyn Kail lists Five Quick and Easy Ways Photographers Can Give Back. And the fifth one goes both ways.
- Jim Kasson recommends An Important GFX 100S Accessory, the Hoodman H32MB Hoodloupe, as an alternative to a tilt/swivel EVF. And while we're on the subject, Lloyd Chambers rants about the camera's Conceptually Flawed Design after he mistakenly set it to shoot JPEG instead of Raw.
- Dahlia Ambrose provides an extensive look at shooting Dynamic Sports Photography.
- Kevin Martin Jose develops some Film Simulations From Scratch Using Python. He walks you through the task starting by turning a red square green and ending up applying the Fujifilm Velvia 50 CLUT bundled with RawTherapee to a truck image.
- Howard Oakley scratches his head over That macOS Update, showing you how to use Terminal to find older full installers and even download one.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
