In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Cuba, a 1970s Canon 50mm FD-mount prime, a FujiFilm GFX 100S review, a GFX 100S bracketing issue and camera bag inserts.
- Cuba During the Pandemic features the images of Leysis Quesada in Havana's Los Sitios neighborhood. Her work is supported by the Magnum Foundation with a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.
- Kirk Tuck locks an adapter between his Leica and a 1970s Canon 50mm FD-mount prime that was the 35mm kit camera of its day and takes a walk around Austin. "To come full circle to a lens used at the beginning of my career only to find that, of course, it was never about the gear," he writes. "The gear was already as good as I needed it to be." (Yeah, we use our 1980s Nikon 50mm f1.4 on all of our digital cameras, happy that Nikon stuck with the F mount all these years.)
- Zach Sutton reviews the FujiFilm GFX 100S after buying one. "To sum up my thoughts on the Fujifilm GFX 100s in just a few final words -- the Fujifilm GFX 100S is the best camera I've ever used in my life," he writes.
- Jim Kasson reports the GFX 100S Focus Bracketing Stops Before Infinity. "I think Fujifilm should modify their firmware to allow focus bracketing to go slightly past what the camera thinks is infinity," he writes. Well, nothing's perfect.
- Had to chuckle over this Camera Bag Interior Designer conundrum. "I just bought a new bag and I hate (plus I'm pretty awful at it) rearranging those Velcro inserts to fit my gear," the author writes. Uh huh. But there's a clever solution in the responses. "What I like to do is to search up product pictures of my camera bags and look for a layout that suits me the most. This way I have found some pretty nifty layouts and can now fit 3 lenses (one attached to the Sony a7ii), a speed light + remote and some battery's and chargers in a pretty small space."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
