In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Kristin Bedford, before-they-were-famous photos, Ishiuchi Miyako, Tony Novak-Clifford, Printerville, voice-over image descriptions as you shoot, dSLR lens discontinuation, Carmen Docampo and shedding gear.

  • In 100 Hours Behind the Wheel With the Lowriders of Los Angeles, Mario Koran presents a few of Kristin Bedford's images from her new 144-page book Cruise Night. "I was interested in showing how lowriders are integral to all aspects of life -- funerals, weddings, quinceaƱeras and rites of passage," she says. "It's not something that's a hobby done on the weekend. It's in their DNA, passed down from generation to generation."
  • The Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego has opened an in-person and online exhibit titled Beginnings, Forever. The exhibit focuses on images made by classic and contemporary photographers before they turned 35. Artists featured include Ansel Adams, Eikoh Hosoe and Lucia Herrera. The show runs through Sept. 19.
  • Thuy Bui looks at The Personal, Political Photography of Ishiuchi Miyako, providing "a rare photographic view into women's history in post-war Japan."
  • Suzanne Sease features Rising Tides, the personal project of Tony Novak-Clifford. In this series of black-and-white images, he "rediscovers the Tidewater region of the Chesapeake Bay."
  • Rick LePage has resurrected Printerville after a quiet decade to answer the deluge of questions he's getting from people interested in printing photos again. He offers some excellent advice in Thoughts on Choosing a Photo Printer (which links to Red River Paper's informative The True Cost of Inkjet Printing).
  • The 1:08 Apple Support video shows how to set up VoiceOver and Image Descriptions so you can hear a description of what you're photographing in the Camera app:

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
