In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a mountain activity contest, Dawoud Bey, Wil Sans, Man Ray, Slim Aarons, Tom Copi, the Canon R3, Juan Pons and AirTags.
- The Guardian has published the winning shots from the International Photography Contest of Mountain Activity organized by the Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, a mountaineering club in Basque country.
- As his retrospective opens at the Whitney, the Guardian presents a few of Dawoud Bey's street photography in The Heart of Harlem.
- "It's been a year since I was shot in the face with a tear gas canister," Wil Sans begins his story. "As part of my own recovery I've been meeting, interviewing and photographing the dozens of others -- many of them fellow photographers -- who've unwillingly joined what we've taken to calling The Shot in the Eye Squad."
- In Good Food, Good Conversation and 40 Years of Love, Mazie Harris features Man Ray's 1922 image of Getrude Stein and Alic Toklas at home.
- Lesley Blume reveals The Secret History of Slim Aarons's Life as a U.S. Army War Photographer. "His subjects included kings (past, current and future), aristocrats, Hollywood's megastars, indolent heirs, business icons and scions -- many shot for Town & Country, to which he contributed for decades," she writes. "However, he actually got his start as a combat photographer in World War II, covering some of the war's deadliest battles, spanning North Africa, the Middle East and Europe."
- Tom Copi's best photograph was Iggy Pop Ascends to Greatness from 1970. It's also his best seller.
- In Canon Unveils More Details About EOS R3 Camera, Dan Havlik sums up what we do and do not know about the new full-frame mirrorless project.
- Wildlife photographer Juan Pons offers Seven Tips to Optimizing Your Adventure Workshop Experience.
- In Put an AirTag in Your Camera Bag, Strobist David Hobby calls the new devices "a straight-up gift for photographers." He details how he hid one in his Dobke bag.
Amusingly enough, a day after observing how little news there's been, we have quite a few full stories to publish this morning. So more to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
