In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Brooklyn, Dylan Hausthor, sky replacement and rickety tripods.
- The Brooklyn Public Library exhibition Brooklyn Resists traces slavery in the borough back to Dutch rule in the 1600s. The online exhibit includes photographs illustrating racism, resistance, education and activism of Black Brooklynites through the centuries.
- Cat Lachowskyj interviews Dylan Hausthor about his "makeshift equipment and meta approach." He used a half-frame camera to save money on film, bought a used Graflex (and then another), relies on a lens with a broken shutter and another with a stuck aperture blade and uses a battery-powered Godox. He admits, "I know so little about gear and my style has evolved directly out of never fully understanding my camera."
- Dan Havlike talk to Tyler Stalman, who explains An Easy Way to Do a Realistic Sky Replacement in Photoshop. Photoshop has made it easy to do high-end sky replacement, Stalman says.
- Kirk Tuck defends Small, Cheap, Portable, Rickety Tripods the only way you can. With some evocative night shots of downtown Austin. He used a Benro TSL08C Slim carbon fiber tripod.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
