In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at storms, Shortcuts, 20 Lightroom tips, a Zeiss 35mm f2.0 ZF, Instagram Likes, background control, tungsten and the Emerging Photography Awards contest.
- In Menacing Storms Rip Across Remote Landscapes in Black-And-White Photos, Grace Ebert features Mitch Dobrowner's dramatic images of Midwest and Southwest systems raging across rural regions.
- John Voorhees reports Photo Editing and Management App Darkroom Adds Extensive Shortcuts Support. "The update is notable because it allows Darkroom to work hand-in-hand with other apps, something which few photography apps do," he writes.
- Julieanne Kost has collected Twenty Tips for Working With Lightroom Classic. Here's the 22-minute video:
- Kirk Tuck bought a used Zeiss 35mm f2.0 ZF for Father's Day. "I like the character of it even better than the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens I have been shooting with," he says.
- Dave Williams explains how to Hide Likes on Instagram. He's hidden his own Like counts.
- Zach Sutton discusses Photographing Black on Black and White on White with lighting diagrams for each. It's harder than it looks.
- When, Where, and How to Use Tungsten Light illuminates the subject with sample shots highlighting this warm, reddish light source.
- Feature Shoot is now accepting entries for its Emerging Photography Awards. "We're giving this year's winners opportunities to exhibit their work as part of gallery shows in Berlin and Paris, be featured in street exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York City and have their work published as part of Feature Shoot's Emerging Photographers photo book." Deadline is Aug. 31.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
