In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a dude ranch, clouds at a gas station, forecasting cloud cover and over-editing tells.

  • In Scenes From a Dude Ranch on the High Plains, Claire Thomas takes you to Wyoming where the Wales photographer worked as a horse wrangler at the Lazy L&B Ranch. Her love for horses and the outdoors led her to photography.
  • Kirk Tuck recommends you always Bring Your Camera. And just to prove it, he snapped a dynamic cloud scape over Texas while he was pumping gas. "You wear pants. You wear shoes. Maybe you wear glasses every day," he observes. "So when you get dressed be sure to pick out a camera." Even if you put on shorts and go barefoot, we would add.
  • Clear Outside forecasts cloud cover (among other things, including the space station flyover) and it seems to be getting our neighborhood (whose microclimate always differs dramatically from the TV forecasts) right. It reports, for example, that 99 percent of the sky is obscured at the moment. Which is accurate. We're in a fog bank.
  • Dan Havlick lists Five Warning Signs You May Be Over-Editing Your Photos. We're tempted to say that on the other hand you'll find five more. Then there are the toes to count....

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
