In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Minimalist Photography Awards, summer, Hiroshi Sugimoto, the Panasonic S5, photo management tools and SIMD processing.
- The Guardian celebrates this year's best Minimalist Photography. All the winners in 12 categories can be seen at the Minimalist Photography Awards site.
- Ellyn Kail features 10 classic Fashion Photos to Celebrate Summer in a piece sponsored by Fine Art America, which sells prints of them.
- In Hiroshi Sugimoto's Jekyll and Hyde Year, Blake Gopnik reports on the Japanese photographer's attempt to design a Japanese garden for the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden. His plan to use stacked stones around modernist sculptures is not popular.
- Kirk Tuck kicks the tires on the Panasonic S5, an affordable and compact L-system body. He has three gripes but concludes, "It's pretty sweet."
- Jenn Pereira lists 14 Photo Management and Workflow Tools. "If you are running a photography business, these solutions and tools mentioned are the best ones to help you in your business workflow," she writes.
- Howard Oakley begins a series examining the benefits of Single Instruction Multiple Data processing found in all current Intel processors used in Macs and in the ARM cores built into the M1 chip.
