In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at David Bailey, John McDermott, Lou Schwartzberg, 500px and a Rocky Nook discount.
- The Guardian reports David Bailey "will open up his archive for the first time at Photo London -- with portraits of the Rolling Stones, Michael Caine and Jerry Hall on display." Bailey "has produced some of the most famous photographic portraits of the last six decades."
- Suzanne Sease presents the personal project of John McDermott. He shot Germany's national women rowers training on Lago di Caldaro in the early mornings. "This was one of the last nice projects I was able to work on before we went back into a fairly strict Covid lockdown again where our ability to move about was restricted," he writes.
- Lou Schwartzberg spent 15 years at four frames an hour making time-lapse fungi growth. In the 8:43 How Mushroom Time-Lapses Are Filmed, he shows how he did it. Indoors.
- Jasenka Grujin finds Seven Talented Photographers to Follow on 500px, including Jimmy Mcintyre, Rey Vladyc Mangouta, Antony Spencer, Vadim Stein, Sasha Brazhnik, Ian Ross Pettigrew and Elsa Bleda.
- Rocky Nook's Labor Day sale is a 40 percent discount on everything, including its extensive photography list, through Sept. 6 when you use the code LABOR21 at checkout.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
