It was cold. It was dark. It was windy. We had stumbled down the street trying to get a little exercise and were wondering if we'd gone beyond our range already. The thought of a warm cup of coffee formed in our mind like a mirage.

Steed. Captured with an iPhone 6 Plus at f2.2, 1/171 second and ISO 32. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

Bowing our head under the effort to move ahead, we saw a blue spot on the sidewalk near a fire hydrant. Incongruously blue. With a smear of red and a speck of yellow. What's that?

A small horse in armor, arriving at the hydrant.

We had other things on our mind (like coffee) so we walked on -- but not far. We quickly came back and took a few photos of this serendipitous appearance.

The poor little figurine can't drink from the hydrant, of course. But we could, photographically speaking.

No telling how we were led to the water, but it was up to us to drink once we got there.
