In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Todd Clare, Anna Neubauer, Architectural Photography Awards, Kelby's holiday gear guide, Chambers's picks, scanning with a Z 7, math and the Innovate Grant.

  • Devid Gualandris fearures Todd Clare's series Mindscapes, "captures the tranquility of nature while allowing viewers to share an observation of something special -- a collection of serendipitous moments that represent the artist's wonder and affinity toward our planet."
  • In On Change and Difference, Sara Rose Sharp reviews the images of Austrian photographer Anna Neubauer. "Neubauer now works primarily in children's fashion but has also cultivated a stunning portfolio of images that present a highly diverse range of models, including those with visible differences, such as Downs Syndrome," she writes.
  • The winners of the 9th annual Architectural Photography Awards 2021 have been announced with two overall winners. The $2,000 Panel Judges Overall prize goes to Liu Zinghao from China for his image of the holidays during Covid-19 in the shadow of Raffles City, Chongqing. The $1,000 World Architecture Festival Delegates Overall prize goes to Tan Zaoi from China for his image of Times Pavilion in GuangZhou.
  • Scott Kelby has published My 16th Annual Holiday Photography Gear Guide. It includes plenty of low-cost but very useful products as "stocking stuffers."
  • Lloyd Chambers gets in the act, too, with Some Top Lenses and Cameras but much less ambitiously.
  • Jim Kasson tries Scanning 4x5 Tmax 100 With a Nikon Z 7 on a dare. Not quite the same resolution as the Fujifilm GFX 100S.
  • Matt Wright thinks The Film Community Has a Math Problem, Not a Film Price or Kodak Problem. Focusing on the percent increase in the price of film can make it seem like a much bigger burden than the actual dollars and cents, he writes. And even calculating the percentage in increased costs (assuming processing stays the same) is tricky.
  • The deadline for the $550 Innovate Grant for photogoraphers is Dec. 14. Categories include Portrait, Conceptual, Still Life, Black + White, Documentary, Street, Composite and Collage.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
