In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Cherry Kearton, Eric Bouvet, film, QT Luong, Enhance Details, OWC Atlas S Pro SDXC cards and a print sale.

  • In The First Man to Hunt Wildlife With a Camera, Not a Rifle, John Vidal profiles Cherry Kearton on the occasion of a new exhibit of his work at the Royal Geographical Society, London, from Dec. 14 to 20.
  • Jon Henley reports five-time World Press Photo winner Eric Bouvet's best phone picture was of an Ibex mountaineering with him in southeastern France.
  • Mike Johnston diagnoses The Troubles With Film. "My opinion is a version of something Carl Weese once said: digital imaging was the Coming of Age of color photography; black-and-white was already perfect," he writes.
  • Kevin Raber posts his 24:26 Conversation With QT Luong about the photographer's second book, Our National Monuments. Spreads from the book illustrate the accompanying article.
  • In 4x5 Tmax 100 With a Nikon Z 7, Enhance Details, Jim Kasson uses the Lightroom feature to double the resolution of the scan. "It’s hard to judge because Enhance Details SUper Resolution sharpens so aggressively, but the results appear to ba an improvement over the regularly demosaiced Z7 image, but not as natural as the GFX 100S image," he writes.
  • Lloyd Chambers like the 256-GB OWC Atlas S Pro SDXC Card partly because those CFExpress Type A cards are so expensive.
  • Grace Ebert highlights A Print Sale to Protect the Environment by the woman-led nonprofit Vital Impacts. "The photographs from all the artists in this initiative are diverse but the one thing they all have in common is a shared commitment to the environment," co-founder Ami Vitale says.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
