9 December 2021

Capture One 22 has been released with panorama stitching, HDR merge, AI-based batch image rotation and wireless tethering for select Canon cameras. The new release also includes improved performance and a better user experience, the company said.

The panorama stitching and HDR merging functions produce DNG files, which permits the full range of any Raw edit but also requires quite a bit of disk space and may even overflow Capture One's cache. This version of Capture One can use more RAM to cache images, fortunately.

But the company notes that panorama DNGs over 600-megapixels in resolution will still exceed the file size Capture One can cache. You can still edit them but performance will suffer.

The maximum supported resolution is 715-Mp and the Panorama cannot exceed 65,000 pixels in either width or height.

Processing time varies as well, taking from 10 seconds to 20 minutes, the company said. HDR merging, similarly, can take "anywhere between 10 seconds and 5 minutes," Capture One said.

NEW FEATURES

  • Panorama Stitch. The new Panorama Stitch Tool produces a linear DNG that can be edited like a Raw file. Available projections include spherical, cylindrical, perspective and panini.
  • HDR Merge. You can now increase dynamic range in your image by merging your bracketed Raw files directly within Capture One. The result is a linear DNG that can be edited like a Raw file. Auto Adjust and Auto Align options are available.
  • Auto Rotate. You can automatically rotate batches of images with the new AI-based Auto Rotate tool.
  • Wireless Tethering. You can tether several Canon cameras over wireless or cabled networks with the same functionality as tethering over USB. Canon R5/1Dx II/1Dx III are supported with preliminary support for Canon R6/R/5D IV/90D.

Improvements in this version include:

  • Catalog performance improvements in Windows
  • Browsing and caching performance improvements
  • Various user experience improvements including 30 percent faster image loading
