In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at LensCulture's black-and-white award winners, Philippe Fragnière, Lina Geoushy, printers and used gear.
- LensCulture has announced the winners of its Black & White Photography Awards. "These remarkable photographers have produced outstanding work in 21 countries on five continents, representing a wealth of stories and memory-searing images from cultures around the world -- from Cameroon to Canada, Germany to Japan, the U.S. and U.K. to Brazil and Mexico and beyond," the editors note.
- Devid Gualandris sees The Possibilities of Perception in the images of Swiss photographer Philippe Fragnière. "With an unequivocal eye for aesthetic beauty, his photography series' are a work of poetry -- they reveal a fascination with the instability of things and a search for sentiment, behind which the fundamentally questionable nature of reality looms," he writes.
- Flossie Skelton profiles Lina Geoushy's documentary photography showing Female Athletes Fighting Egypt's Sporting Culture. "Geoushy's response to Malala Fund's Against All Odds commission, in collaboration with 1854, follows the lives of Rooka, a footballer, and Malak, a gymnast," she writes.
- Dan Havlick lists The Seven Best Photo Printers starting with the Epson SureColor P700. But they're all Epson or Canon inkjets of various sizes.
- Kirk Tuck buys a mint Leica R Series 50mm f2.0 Summicron, which prompts him to dispose of some Fujifilm and Sigma gear.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
