In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Tony Vaccaro, Zorana Mušikić, the TTArtisan 21mm, publishing a book and muggers.
- Anna Nelson met with 98-year-old photographer Tony Vaccaro, an infantryman who unofficially photographed World War II for 272 days, developing film shot on an his Argus C-3 using helmets as trays:
- Berlin photographer Zorana Mušikić spent a week shooting Nomads in the Tundra. "We were together day and night, so a certain intimacy could hardly be avoided," she says.
- Kirk Tuck takes his new $240 TTArtisan 21mm f1.4 out for a spin in downtown Austin. That was after he put his "new" Leica 50mm Summicron R through its paces.
- Mark Segal explains How and Why I Became a Publisher, discussing publishing technologies (digital vs. offset) as well as the process of creating and selling the book. No plans to reprint it, though.
- A student asks if Muggers can be discouraged from attacking by using inexpensive gear. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of appraisal that goes on during the transaction.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
