Matinee: 'Merry Christmas from Konzerthaus Berlin' Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

25 December 2021

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 428th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Merry Christmas from Konzerthaus Berlin.

Merry Christmas -- and not only from us but from Berlin's 203-year-old concert hall (and former theater). Konzerthaus Berlin released this 38-second video greeting just in time for Christmas this week.

But it isn't really a video.

It's a stop-motion animation composed of over 1,000 paper cut-outs of Helge von Niswandt on the trombone, Stephan Stadfeld and Sören Linke on trumpet with Mark Voermans on drums (watch for it).

Konzerthaus Berlin also released a Making Of version of the video that shows the set between shots, which is amusing in its own right:

That just doubles the fun for us. And, we hope, for you as well. Merry Christmas!
