In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Michele Laurita, Todd Cole, Jim Kasson, Andrew Molitor and Darktable.

  • In Visual Beauty: Immediate and Everlasting, Michele Laurita photographs fashion as fine art. "I am very, very research intensive on all my projects," she says. "I take in all the aspects of the location very methodically and on the day of the shoot this allows for variants of what I originally discovered to unfold."
  • Suzanne Sease features Migrant Workers, a personal project by Todd Cole that explores the effects of South American migrants on the rural communities of the Texas panhandle. "These towns have become dependent on this immigrant labor and as a result the community are now embracing their new neighbors, leading to an open mindedness and integration of shared values," he says.
  • Jim Kasson looks at Field Curvature in the Fujifilm GF 35-70mm. "This looks really good," he writes.
  • In On Portraits, Andrew Molitor begins with the premise that humans are mind readers. "When we are interacting with another human, we maintain a surprisingly accurate and detailed model of the other human's mental state," he writes. The portraitist portrays the mind with details of the face.
  • Darktable 3.8.0 [LMW] has been released with a reworked keyboard shortcut system, a new diffuse/sharpen module, new blur options and more.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
