We came across this house on one of our late afternoon walk early this month. We liked the way the sunlight strafed the textured exterior so we lined up the shot from up the hill across the street.
When we looked at the image on the computer, it began to tell a story. But it told it from the end not the beginning.
We knew the garden was not as neglected as it first appears. You're looking at the meridian, which (owned by no one) is neglected.
But what about the windows? They're all covered. Not a bit of light passes into the rooms.
And yet the building itself is in good repair. No peeling paint, the roof in good shape, the gutters and downspouts showing no rust.
It has come to this at the end, this house seemed to say.
And yet it is undeniably a home. And there is still no place like home.
