In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a brave woman, foggy streets, black-and-white photographs, Angelica Edwards, a simple camera and the Outsiders Photography Conference.

  • Mark Neville sent out 750 copies of his image of The Brave Woman Who Symbolises Ukraine. "I was walking around Myrnohrad taking photos with a big portable flash and a plate camera when I saw this woman sit down and light a cigarettes," he writes. The image is from his book Stop Tanks With Books, a series of photographs from across the country intended to help westerners empathise with Ukrainians. "It's people's feelings that need to be changed," he believes. "To my mind, that's the role of the artist."
  • In Dense Fog Shrouds San Francisco's Streets, Grace Ebert features Josua Singh's photos. "Often working after sunset, Singh captures everyday activities like soccer practice and commutes that turn mysterious when illuminated by street lights or glowing store signage that peeks through the atmospheric haze," she writes.
  • Dahlia Ambrose features 21 Captivating Black and White Photographs that let you "embrace the textures and patterns that are accentuated through light and shadows."
  • Suzanne Sease presents the personal project of Angelica Edwards, chronicling the breasts cancer of Keyla "Nunny" Reece. "Reece was excited to share her story," Sease writes. "She said she wanted her son, Ryan, who was 10 years old at the time, to be able to look back and understand what his mother went through as he got older and she was no longer here." BTW, Safari's Inspector reports an error trying to load the images but Firefox doesn't.
  • Mike Johnston is using a Leica M10-P Reporter on loan from a friend. In The Leica M10: It's Simple, he writes he's finally found "what I've been gassing on about, namely ... a simple camera."
  • The Outsiders Photography Conference will be held online and in Kanab, Utah, March 4 to 6.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
