In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 20th century women photographers, a SmugMug video series, iPad tips for Capture One, unboxing a Leica and an Olympus OM-1 tribute.
- Grace Ebert reports the Denver Art Museum exhibit Modern Women/Modern Vision features "more than 100 shots by some of the era's most influential photographers -- the list includes Berenice Abbott, Dorothea Lange, Diane Arbus, Eva Besnyƶ and Imogen Cunningham -- showcasing their distinct aesthetics, politics and styles." The exhibit runs through Aug. 28.
- Anton Lorimar has created a new five-part video series for SmugMug called This Lens Tells Stories. Here's the one-minute trailer:
- Derrick Story has Five Tips for Getting Started With Capture One for the iPad. "It's too early to tell how my workflow will shake out with this new option," he writes. "But the journey looks like a lot of fun."
- Kirk Tuck documents the arrival of his Small System Back-Up Camera, a Leica CL. The unboxing is entirely cathartic for those of us without the means to acquire said object. A public service, in short.
- In Olympus OM-1: The Small, Quiet Revolution in SLR Design, Stephen Dowling celebrates the 50th anniversary of the compact SLR designed by Yoshihisa Maitani. "OM-1s remain widely regarded today, a testament to Maitani's skill at finding new directions in camera design," he writes.
