- In Argentines Year for Evita 70 Years After Her Death, Daniel Politi writes, Seven decades after her death, Evita continues to awaken passions in Argentina as her followers believe her image as a champion of the poor is more relevant than ever at a time when inequality and poverty are rising as the economy remains stagnated amid galloping inflation." Natacha Pisarenko photographed tributes this week to the former first lady, who died of cervical cancer at age 33.
- The Guardian presents a few images of the festivities surrounding the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. Over 5,000 athletes will compete in 280 events across 19 sports in the 10 days of the games.
- In Photography's Delightful Obsessives (gift link), Blake Gopnik reviews a new exhibit at the Met of the Machine Age monuments photographed by Met surveys Bernd and Hilla Becher. "Their photos are almost as constructed as any 'lean gas generator' they might depict," he writes. - Harold Davis performs a little Household Magic with everyday objects lurking around his house.
