In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Kenyan presidential election, John Sibley, instant cameras, image generative AI and a dilemma.
- NPR's Picture Show features images from various photographers in Voters Cast Their Ballots in Kenyan Presidential Election With Low Turnout. "On Tuesday, while some voters camped out at a polling station as early as 3 a.m., the election was marked by low turnout and a great deal of cynicism," Eyder Peralta writes.
- In Record U.K. Heat Sweats Palace Guard, Michael Shaw, publisher of Reading the Pictures and writer, professor, and historian, Cara Finnegan discuss John Sibley's memorable photo for Reuters:
- Sheena Vasani surveys The Best Instant Cameras but the sidebar titled A Note About Instant Camera Film is the critical point in the discussion. Do you want to settle for Instax prints or prefer Polaroid prints? That is the question.
- Paul Melcher looks at Image Generative AI and the Everyday Company. "As of today, anyone with a decent Internet connection can generate images via a simple text prompt. Goodby photography. Hello, promptography," he writes.
- We'll leave you with this dilemma of our era. A wedding photographer has been informed the Groom and His Mother Have Tested Positive for Covid but they plan to go through with the event anyway. The photographer has another wedding booked for the following week. What would you do?
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
