In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at World Photography Day, musical photos, Nikon Z 7 nightscapes, tonality and waterfalls.
- It's World Photography Day (and, for that matter, World Photography Week). We plan to celebrate informally. But if you need a little inspiration search for #WorldPhotographyDay posts on your favorite social media platform.
- In Microcompositions Bring 60 Seconds of Music to Select Photographs, Sarah Cooper suggests, "While photographs are inherently silent, they can conjure all kinds of sensations in our mind, including sound." So the Getty asked a few composers to make one-minute audio responses (or "microcompositions") to five specific photographs in its In Focus: Sound exhibition.
- Will Chaney drove eight hours to shoot Nightscapes With the Nikon Z 7 II in Big Bend National Park. "The extra resolution is incredible to look at when pulling the photos into Lightroom and Photoshop," he writes, among other advantages to the rig.
- In Matters of Tone, Mike Johnston reprocesses a black-and-white image by Guy Ross-Clift. "When I'm working on B&W, I'm often guided by the 'feel' of the way the light actually was in the scene," he writes.
- Dahlia Ambrose details some Tips and Tools to Help You Capture Enchanting Photos of Waterfalls.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
