In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Sarah Lee, photography books, taking stock, what beginners should buy and taking a photo for strangers.
- Sarah Lee photographs London's Winter Nights in uncaptioned color.
- Sean O'Hagan lists The Best Photography Books of 2022. Ten of them. Compare with LensCulture's Favorite Photobooks 2022.
- Derrick Story wonders, What's It Going to Be in 2023? He evaluates his ecosystem for weaknesses and strengths to plan for the future. "I'm dividing my workflow into five areas: Capture, Organization, Processing, Backup and Sharing," he writes. A solid approach to a complex task.
- Mike Johnston wraps up his The Twelve Links of Christmas 2022 with nary a word about the marque item but an interesting discussion of the benefit to beginners of buying high-end equipment. He applies it to wood workers, golfers, musicians and photographers. One surprising benefit: you won't be shopping for a new camera for a while.
- A Reddit poster wonders How Do You React When Someone Notices You With a Camera and Asks to Take a Pic of Them? Around this tourist town, we're happy to oblige with their camera while ours remains securely tethered to our wrist or shoulder. They walk off with smiles and a picture of themselves and we walk away smiling with our camera.
We updated our story Fixing a Nikkor Zoom yesterday after sending one of the two 18-200mm Nikkors to Nikon. There's always more to come here. Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
