In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Polar night, John Fielder, Observer photos, music photographers, Harold Davis and ChronoPhoto.
- Daniel Cole photographs the Polar Night as it gets darker in the warming Arctic. "At almost every window, a candle or star-shaped decoration twinkles a sign of welcome."
- John Fielder has donated his archive of Colorado landscapes to History Colorado, which "will make all my photographs available for free digital searches, for personal and commercial use by the general public." He notes, "I have never felt that I 'owned' my photographs, only that I was borrowing these places to explore and record and that I would give them back someday. That day has arrived." The collection will go online in the spring.
- Josy Forsdike presents Original Observer Photography published this month that was commissioned by the publication.
- Feroz Khan features a few Music Photographers, whose task "isn't as straightforward as some of us might think." Among them are Courtney Coles, Jennifer Carter, Tim Bottchen, Beth Saravo and Brenton Giesey.
- In Talisman, Harold Davis showcases a few of the "magical objects with power" he has come across, photographed on a simple background using bracketed low-key exposures.
- Chronophoto displays an image and you guess when it was taken. Good luck!
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
