In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Milan Fashion Week, Vic Bakin, Paul Kuroda, Sho Shibata, the Sony World Photography Awards, the Living Archive Series, celestial events, Kim Steele, more strange things, hard cases and Thunderbolt.

  • Scarlett Conlon and Jo Jones cover Milan Fashion Week with galleries from various sources.
  • The safest place in Ukrainian photographer Vic Bakin's house is his darkroom. Joanna Cresswell reviews his new project InEpitome, in which he sifts through his photographic archives, unearthing and printing old pictures.
  • For End of the Line?, Paul Kuroda took stills of the homeless riding BART. "BART may be a transit system, but like so many others in big cities across the nation, the agency is struggling with how to address the seemingly ever-growing homelessness crisis as it careens toward financial disaster," writes Kevin Truong and David Sjostedt. "The agency's spending on social service interventions and related items has ballooned to upward of $30 million annually, with federal funding expected to run out in two years and hundreds of millions in deficits to follow as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc on public transit revenues."
  • They look like snowmen but they're really Snow-Covered Trees in the Hakkõda Mountains. "This is my favorite place to visit when it is cold like this because it transforms into a wonderland," photographer Sho Shibata says.
  • The Sony World Photography Awards Professional Competition Finalists & Shortlist has been announced. The category winners and overall winner will be revealed at the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony in London on April 13.
  • In Adobe and Black Archives: Living Archive Series, Polly Irungu profiles a few of the artists featured in the six-month partnership designed to highlight emerging Black artists through short documentary profiles and providing grants to continue their work.
  • "Something special is happening in the night skies right now," writes Dave Williams in The End of the Adventure. He's talking about seeing the northern lights "more and more over the coming few years as we approach solar maximum" in 2025. But you'll also find Venus and Jupiter aligning in a planetary conjunction near the moon.
  • Kim Steele has published American Industry in seven chapters covering Hydro Power, Aviation, Heavy Industry, Energy, Space, Atomic Energy, and The Future to create "a visual tapestry of American industrial power in the twentieth century." The 124-page, 10x25 square hardcover is available now for $39.20.
  • Thom Hogan has another edition of Strange Things Said on the Internet. They keep getting stranger.
  • Light Stalking lists The 11 Best Camera Hard Cases for location shooting and travel. "Overall, cases are a smart investment for anyone who wants to keep their camera and its accessories safe and protected."
  • Howard Oakley has posted a practical guide to Getting Best Performance From Thunderbolt on Apple Silicon Macs with notes for Intel Macs as well.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
