In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Werner Bischof, the World Nature Photography Awards, Zuzana Pustaiová, East Palestine, spring and the Sigma 90mm.

  • Kate Connolly reports on The Forgotten Photographs of Werner Bischof restored by his son. "About 100 colour prints from original negatives, some rediscovered but most never seen before, taken by Bischof between 1939 and 1954, have been restored and feature in an exhibition exploring a little-known aspect of his creative output," she writes. UNseen Color is on display at the Museo d'Arte della Svizzera Italiana gallery in Lugano, Switzerland, through July 2.
  • Grace Ebert showcases the winners of the World Nature Photography Awards encompassing "a vast array of life across six continents, from an elephant’s endearing attempt at camouflage to a crocodile covered in excessively dry mud spurred by drought."
  • Joanna Cresswell explores Slovakian photographer Zuzana Pustaiová's One Day Every Day, a playful photo project exploring "the absurdity of the repeating societal roles, patterns and cultural stereotypes we engage in (often without realizing) through brightly colored, staged and collaged images."
  • Lauren Petracca tells the story of Families Reeling From the East Palestine Fiasco in both words and pictures. "One concern is that the burning vinyl chloride may have produced dioxins that could linger in and around local homes and farmland," she writes. "The compounds, which can take decades to fully break down, can cause cancer, interfere with hormones and cause damage to reproductive and immune systems."
  • Dahlia Ambrose presents 21 Photographs of the Spring Season. "There are a lot of opportunities for photography during this time of the year, including the most favorite for many, the flowers, then wildlife, dew drops, foggy scenes and landscapes, bugs and so on," she writes. And so on indeed.
  • Kirk Tuck tries a 90mm f2.8 Sigma I-Series Lens on his Leica CL and loves it. "The AF is good and quick and all the electronic interface stuff works as well," he says. And the photos aren't too bad either.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
