In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Observer photography, highrises, edible bugs, restoring film, work and some opportunities.

  • Original Observer Photography highlights the best images published this March in the publication from James Norton moving on from Happy Valley to Jay Rayner taking on a chatbot.
  • Highrises is a project documenting America's 20th century landmark towers. "A drone-mounted camera takes multiple high-res photos of the top of each highrise. Images are stitched together manually to create a elevation scan with flattened perspective and enhanced lighting effects to accentuate depth and form. Creative and artistic liberties celebrate the unique character of each structure."
  • Sophie Wright interviews Michela Benaglia and Emanuela Colombo about Beatle in the Box, their project photographing "a series of sustainable recipes that reflect on the future of food. They all center on one unlikely ingredient: bugs."
  • This 21-minute video shows How a 100-Year-Old Animated Film Is Restored. "Fabulous Fleischer Cartoons Restored is on a mission to restore the films of Max Fleischer from original prints and negatives."

  • Kirk Tuck found himself Nostalgic for Work after shooting portraits for an ad agency whose principals he's known for a decades. "ll of the people who have been there for a while are more like friends than clients," he writes. "They really do care about their relationships with both sides of the work equation: clients and vendors."
  • Colossal lists April 2023 Opportunities, including some for photographers.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
