In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at changemakers, a bully, the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant, Man Ray, Mikiki Hara, Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, Carl Zeiss 35mm Biogon and growing.

  • The Changemaker Community developed nine stories of individuals who are making a difference. The collaboration between Ashoka and the Leica Meet shows "whether dealing with sustainable supermarkets in Argentina, inclusive football teams in Italy or images of Ukrainian refugees in Germany" any individual can be a changemaker.
  • Alicia Bruce: I Burn but I Am Not Consumed tells the story of Bruce's photos of Menie, whose residents raised an alarm over 10 years ago that is still ringing. "What started as a personal battle to protect their homes and community came to symbolize a much bigger struggle against a bully who operated in a global playground," writes Louise Pearson, curator of photography at the National Galleries of Scotland.
  • Matt Filder highlights past winners of the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant as applications open for this year's grant.
  • In Stockings, Style, Surrealism!, Morwenna Ferrier reviews a new exhibition of Man Ray's fashion photography. Here's a video preview:

  • In Small Myths, Sophie Wright reviews a new book by Mikiki Hara of images of "whatever she comes across" in her daily life. "The camera that finds itself in close companionship with Hara's body is an old analog Ikonta and the way she engages with it is to shoot from the chest without looking through the viewfinder," she writes.
  • Mike Johnston celebrates Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day with a photo by Vijay Ramakrishnan made with a $58.95 Lensless camera.
  • Kirk Tuck shows off his new Carl Zeiss 35mm f2.0 Biogon lens. "I bought the lens on a lark and now I'm happy I did," he writes.
  • Thom Hogan suggest The Proper Way to Grow as a photographer. "Once you've completed your purchase will you then begin growing into something or will you be slowly growing out of something?" he asks.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
