In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Photo London, the Westminster Dog Show, ChatGPT, two photos, Z lenses, Lightroom's masking tools, summer and incomes.

  • Mee-Lai Stone showcases The Best of Photo London, which "tell a compellingly modern story" from strands of DNA to vintage French models.
  • Photographers Calla Kessler and Desiree Rios go Behind the Scenes at the Westminster Dog Show (gift link).
  • I Asked ChatGPT Five Photography Questions, Derrick Story confesses. But you'll have to listen to his podcast for the answers.
  • In Pretty Little Pinhole Photo, Mike Johnston reflects on two photos submitted by readers. He notes the difficulty of being good at both professional and art photography. "Most pros are pros and most art photographers are art photographers," he writes. "It's rare that one person is good at both ... although there have been some famous photographers who do both very capably, such as Irving Penn or Martin Parr." Ansel Adams paid the bills with a commercial career as well.
  • In Lens Survey Says ..., Thom Hogan reports the results of his recent survey of reader preferences for future Z-mount lenses. "The good news is that I'm pretty sure that a high number of the lenses I put in this survey are being actually explored by Nikon as future candidates for the lineup," he writes.
  • Jason Row explores Lightroom's Amazing Masking Tools. "We now have the power to easily isolate specific parts of the image, such as the sky subject and background, using AI," he writes. "We can then further refine those masks and intersect them with other masks. With masking tools such as the Brush and Radial, we can select very small specific parts of the image to work on."
  • Dave Williams confronts the Seasonal Changes warming things up in this hemisphere. "Today, let's talk about capturing breathtaking summer landscapes with your camera," he suggests.
  • Rob Haggart shares five more stories in his continuing series Photographers, How Much Do You Make?

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
