In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Kirk Tuck, Beijing, a photo adventure, Aurora photography, ImageRights, self-watermarking AI, the Contax RTS II, camera life cycles and the Dell UltraSharp 32 6K monitor.

  • Kirk Tuck shares a few intimate Photos From Around the House on Mother's Day. "I had the Sigma 65mm f2.0 on the oldest of my Leica SLs. Together they are a beautiful combination for photographing single objects and small tableaux," he writes.
  • In Stories From the Street, Jerry Gaodocuments life on the streets of Beijing. "I enjoy observing people's lives, their states of being and contemplating the underlying reasons behind those states," he says.
  • Kevin Raber recounds My Sunday Photo Adventure With Rad Drew. "The funny thing is, quite unintentionally, we didn't use any camera gear other than our iPhone Pro Max 14 cameras," he writes. "Don't ask me why but it just turned out that way and I have no regrets."
  • Dahlia Ambrose provides an Aurora Photography Guide. "We will quickly look at what the aurora is, how it is formed and some basic information on watching out for these phenomena before we dive into the technical side of aurora photography," she writes.
  • Rob Haggart reports on the Artist Management Association webinar with ImageRights founders Joe Naylor and Ted VanCleave, who shared the value their copyright infringement services are having on their photography and agency clients.
  • Feroz Khan suggests we Make AI So Self-Aware That It Watermarks Generated Images in a story in which all the images were AI-generated by Flickr user Kevin Dooley.
  • Mike Johnston adds a third installment to his look back at The Contax RTS II, in which he celebrates "a period in which simplicity was valued, the photographer's knowledge and judgement rather than technical helper aids were supposed to be in control and the technical features were supposed to stay out of the way and not do anything to confuse the camera operator."
  • In Camera Life Cycles, Thom Hogan distinguishes between the "competitive life-cycle" and "usefulness cycle" of a camera. "Much of the online discussion about cameras is about buying, not using," he writes. Uh huh.
  • The $3,199.99 Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor is a 32-inch IPS panel with 6K resolution, 2000:1 contrast and 99 percent $3,199.99 and 99 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, several USBS port, RJ-45 Ethernet, HDMI and Mini-DisplayPort.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
