In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Cathy Cone, Lynn Whitney, Alex Turner, blur, layers, the adventure, Capture One, new DxO modules and home movies.
- In Apparent Close-Up, Magali Duzant spotlightss Cathy Cone's multi-layered images printed using photogravure.
- The Unique Landscape of Lake Erie features Lynn Whitney's large format black-and-white images. In addition to an exhibit opening this month in Lakeside Chautauqua, Ohio, they are published in Lake Erie. "As a collection, these photographs and texts are reminders of the past we share; of what we have done and continue to do to the lake and to each other," the liner notes point out.
- Heidi Volpe features Blind River, Alex Turner's photography project using infrared photography and AI-based facial recognition software to capture activity in several mountain ranges on the border in Arizona over a three year period.
- In Triggering the Viewers' Imagination, French director and photographer Thibaut Grevet compiled indistinct and blurred images shot over the years for his photo book Blurred. "A refreshing departure from the overly crisp, highly polished images that dominate Instagram and advertising, Blurred invites viewers to slow down and look closer, allowing their imaginations to fill in the gaps," writes Devid Gualandris.

- In Embrace the Photographic Adventure, Dave Williams has a few tips for maximizing your adventure. "It's all about embracing the opportunities that surround us daily, in our own neighborhoods or even just a stone's throw away," he writes.
- Capture One's May update include several AI enhancements: Smart Adjustments, Autod Dust Removal (beta) and Face Focus with faster Culling. - DxO has added 249 Optics modules to its software suite, including Nikkor Z 85mm f1.2 S, Hasselblad X2D 100C and the latest lenses from Leica, Fujifilm and Sigma.
- Adam Pratt will host a two-hour online workshop titled The Expert Guide to Converting Home Movies on June 10 at 10 a.m. PDT. Registration for the Zoom workshop is $50 before June 7 and $75 after.
