In November when the Beaujolais Nouveau arrives at the local wine shops, the posters go up announcing, "Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrive!" And the party begins. So we thought we'd mimic that tradition on the arrival of our 16-inch M2 MacBook Pro. It's here.

We were researching an article Monday when we discovered a refurbished model of the precise configuration of the Jan. 2023 model we were planning to purchase. We thought about it over dinner and then clicked on the Buy button.

We had it delivered to the same nearby Apple Store we had bought our current 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2010. And this morning Apple sent an email telling us it was ready for pickup.

So this afternoon, after getting the car smogged, visiting Mom at the nursing home and putting some gas in the car for tomorrow's doctor appointment of our own, we stopped at the Apple Store.

We were directed to the pickup corner where a charming employee used her iPad to photograph the QR code the email had linked to our iPhone Wallet. Then she checked our government-issued ID before scanning our Apple Business QR code so we get credit for the purchase.

During which she asked us about our business. Writing about photography. How long? Since the last century. She laughed. What's your current computer? A 2010 16-inch MacBook Pro. Oh, so you keep them a long time. That's nice.

She told us someone in the back would bring the purchase up shortly so we wandered deep into the corner of the store to look at the cases. We buy an InCase soft case for our laptops but all they had were hard cases.

We wandered back having been gone about 15 seconds and there it was. She handed it to us and we looked one last time at her gold name necklace.

"Destiny," it said.
