In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Zaydee Sanchez, Grego Hofbauer, going mirrorless underwater, Sony CFexpress Type A cards, Sony World Photography Awards and succinct absurdities.

  • Zaydee Sanchez tells the story in both words and pictures of Pajaro's Quest to Rebuild after historic flooding from a series of storms which displaced 1,700 residents. These are the disaster photos you never see.
  • Suzanne Sease features Grego Hofbauer's personal project photographing the people attending Vienna's Regenbogenparade. And they are not just young people, he discovers.
  • Jasenka Grujin takes a deep dive in How to Photograph Underwater Using a Mirrorless Camera. "Before we focus on various housings for mirrorless cameras, we'll cover all you need for a successful underwater shoot," she promises.
  • Sony has announced its CFexpress Type A Tough Memory Cards in capacities of 960-GB or 1920-GB with read speeds of up to 800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 700 MB/s (with minimum sustained write speeds of 200 MB/s). The 960-GB version is $748.
  • The 17th Sony World Photography Awards is now accepting submissions for 2024. The student competition closed Nov. 30 while the youth and open competitions close Jan. 5, 2024 and the pro competition on Jan. 12. Entry is free.
  • Thought you'd enjoy these Playful Scenes by Julian Frost. "Minimal in composition, his works convey a simple idea through succinct absurdities," Grace Ebert writes. Ah yes, succinct absurdities.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
