In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Brian Airs, the Faroe Islands, Alpine glaciers, Zac Henderson, motion photos, two MOAB papers, the most expensive lenses, SheClicks and creativity's relationship to mental health.
- From the Troubles to Glam Rock showcases the work of British photographer Brian Airs from a new exhibition.
- Grace Ebert features the Faroe Islands captured by Swiss photographer Jennifer Esseiva last April.
- Matthias Schrader photographs a team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology monitoring Alpine Glaciers as they shrink from climate change.
- Suzanne Sease features Dark Matter III, the personal project of Zac Henderson. "Whatever thoughts come to mind from viewing these images, for me they represent a celebration of the knowable and unknowable forms of nature and their ultimate ability to pluck at the strings of human curiosity," he says.
- Jasenka Grujin presents 21 Clever Motion Photos that capture a sense of movement or the illusion of action in a still image. "There are two primary approaches to capturing motion in photography -- freezing motion and motion blur," she writes.
- In Two MOAB Papers, Mark Segal (thoroughly) reviews Entrada Rag Natural 300 and Entrada Rag Natural Coldpress 300. "Both are matte papers with the robust cotton substrate, neither have optical/fluorescing brightening agents, are 300 gsm and are acid and lignin free," he writes.
- Zach Sutton lists The Most Expensive Lenses Currently in Production in case you are so inclined. Not to buy, though. All of these can be rented. Cristina Mittermeier and Kim Grant are the first two guests.
- Angela Nicholson hosts SheClicks, an interview-style podcast featuring "influential women from the photographic industry speaking about their experiences, what drives them and how they got to where they are now."
- Amy White reports the Adobe Foundation and the National Alliance on Mental Illness have released Creative Approaches for Managing Mental Health, a new study showing "the powerful connection between creativity and mental health."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
