In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the entertainment strike, the Bleu(e)s, two kisses, a 1937 photo, ultra-wide monitors, a new Think Tank Photo series, NAWA memberships and Lensbaby's summer photowalk.

  • The Guardian presents images of Actors on Strike as SAF-AFTRA joins the Writers Guild of America negotiating for a cut of the streaming business. Geoff Bennett interviewed SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher on both the economic effect of streaming on actors and the attempt to replace actors with AI.
  • In Orange: The Bleues' Highlights, the firms Orange and Marcel are taking a stand in favor of women's football ahead of the French national team's international competition "with the aim of overturning one of the prejudices that all too often surround the players."

  • Tom Wood's best photograph was Four Lovers Kiss on a Railway Platform. "I used to be really good at table tennis when I was young, which involves always being on the move, going this way and that -- it's very physical and fast," he writes. "I started using a similar technique with my candid photography."
  • In Picture Analysis: Minuses and Plusses, Mike Johnston relies on his expertise as both a photographer and a tennis player to appreciate what appears at first glance to be an awkward photo of Don Budge taken by an unknown photographer in 1937.
  • Jason Row demonstrates How an Ultra-Wide Monitor Can Improve Your Photographic Workflow. He shows off the benefits of working on one in Lightroom.
  • Think Tank Photo has introduced its Venturing Observer Travel Series that includes two carry-on sized rolling suitcases, a 20-liter travel backpack, and a set of three clothing cubes.
  • The National Association of Women Artists is accepting new members through Sept. 15. The all-volunteer NAWA provides opportunities for women artists to exhibit their work in prestigious venues throughout the U.S. at galleries, museums, libraries, art and cultural centers and online.
  • Lensbaby is hosting its Summer Photowalk through Aug. 15. You can traipse around yourself or with a Lensbaby educator or in an informal group. Images on the Treasure Hunt theme are eligible for prizes and gifts from the company.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
