In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the week in photos, Pomfret, Leibovitz at work, a digital tech's income and taking stock.
- The AP Week in Pictures: North America include the Rockettes rehearsing for a Christmas show, mourners at the grave of a 6-year-old Palestinian American boy and people watch a "ring of fire" solar eclipse. The selection was curated by AP photo editor Patrick Sison in New York.
- In Pomfret, Vermont: The Fall Foliage Town That Banned Influencers, Suzanne Podhaizer reports how the rural community defended itself against the hashtaggers taking over the town.
- In For Annie Leibovitz, an Opportunity to Work and Build on the Past (gift link), Laurel Graeber reviews Annie Leibovitz at Work, a show of about 300 photographs at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark.
- In Rob Haggart's series on industry incomes, a Digital Tech works about 130-140 days a year to bring in $70K-$90K. "Worst recent gig was a photographer I work with regularly who took 6 months to pay a $650 invoice," he says. "After that I added a $100 fee on top of all his invoices to guarantee on time payment."
- In Taking Stock, Kirk Tuck reflects on the anxiety the pursuit of perfection produces, robbing us of joy in the moment.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
