In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Nature Conservancy Photo Contest, Paris Photo, Corinne Dufka, Euclid Telescope images, working with catalogs, reaction to Sony's A9 III, cable management, incomes and the LensCulture Art Photography contest.
- Winners of the Nature Conservancy Photo Contest have been announced. Entries from over 80,000 photographers in 191 countries and territories were judged in 12 categories. Tibor Litauszki of Hungary is the Grand Prize winner.
- In Female Faces of Photography, Louis Siroy presents masterworks by women photographers showing at Paris Photo, which runs until Nov. 12.
- Amna Nawaz interviews former conflict photographer Corinne Dufka about her new book This Is War. Dufka spent over two decades documenting human rights abuses when she led the West Africa division at Human Rights Watch. In the 1980s and 1990s, she photographed some of the world's most brutal conflicts. The 256-page hardcover is available for $45.61 ($60) at amazon.com.
- In Euclid Telescope Dazzles With Detailed First Images of Our Universe (gift link), Katrina Miller presents five images from the European Space Agency's robotic telescope. "Whereas NASA's James Webb Space Telescope zooms in on one part of the sky at a time, Euclid excels at imaging wide, but still detailed, swaths of the universe," she writes.
- Julieanne Kost offers Fifteen Tips for Working With Catalogs in Lightroom Classic.
- The announcement of Sony's A9 III has elicited some deep thoughts. Thom Hogan wonders What's Really Happening With Sony? "I see Sony's pre-announcements as being fear-of-losing-sales driven," he writes.... And in Global Shutter Arrives World Radically Changed Within Hours Early Adopters Already Ensconced in the Photography Hall of Fame All Previous Cameras Rendered Useless., Kirk Tuck is bemused. "I'm sure the new Sony A9III is a miracle of sorts. But every photographic miracle comes with some sort of balancing compromise...." While in Photography Has Changed Forever, Kevin Raber can hardly contain his enthusiasm. "This camera has changed everything with the introduction of the Global Shutter," he writes.... Meanwhile LensRentals offers to help Understanding the Difference in Global and Rolling Shutters.
- Think Tank Photo has expanded its Cable Management solutions starting at $12.75
- Rob Haggart profiles a Digital Capture Tech and Retoucher making six figures who spends 80 percent of her time on set. "We are in in this together," she says. 'I've found that the more collaborative a set is the better the deliverables look in the end."
- LensCulture is accepting submissions for its Art Photography Awards. Deadline is Dec. 13.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
