In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Arthur Tress, Yuni Yoshida, movies about Tish Murtha and Lee Miller, a photography road trip, December opportunities and the World Press Photo Contest.
- In Magic Eyes, the Guardian showcases images from Arthur Tress: Rambles, Dreams, and Shadows, "a richly illustrated volume and the first critical look at the early career of Arthur Tress, a singular figure in the landscape of postwar American photography."
- In Faceted Limes and Apples With Scribbled Skin, Kate Mothes presents a few of Yuni Yoshida's images. "She manipulates each item by hand, meticulously cutting, preserving and arranging individual pieces," she writes.
- In 'Tish' and 'Lee', Mike Johnston spreads the word about new movies on the lives of Patricia Anne 'Tish' Murtha and Lee Miller.
- Jason Row has a few ideas about How to Prepare for a Photography Road Trip. "A photography road trip can be one of the best ways to reignite your passion for photography and improve your creativity," he writes.
- Colossal lists December 2023 Opportunities, including a few for photographers.
- The 2024 World Press Photo Contest is now open for entries. "Enter your work for free and you could win €1,000 as a regional winner and an additional €5,000 as a global winner, have your work showcased to a global audience and more," WPO notes. Deadline is Jan. 11, 2024.
