We found ourselves at a bedside waiting for an oxygen supply situation to be resolved. The order was for 15 liters a minute but the two oxygen machines that had been delivered were both only 5 liter machines, delivering a total of just 10.

We'd been told a 10 unit machine was on its way to replace the 5 unit one. So we waited. To make sure.

Meanwhile a tank with a 15 liter pressure regulator was doing the job. But it would be empty within the hour.

So we sat at the bedside waiting for one or the other.

You'd think staring at a blanket in fluorescent light for half an hour would not be very inspiring. But, exhausted from a long day, our eyes rested on the folds and forms of that brown blanket. We began to see sand dunes billowing along the coast, the ocean and sunshine as companions.

So we took out the camera we had with us and tried a few compositions without pressing the shutter. We were waiting for the camera to show us not the weave of a threadbare cover but the sand dunes we had imagined.

And after a minute or two that's just what happened.
