In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the British Press Photographers' Association winners, the Rathkopfs, Sebastião Salgado at 80, MLLM-guided image editing and an Adorama discount.
- Matt Fidler showcases the BPPA Press Photographer of the Year winners in nine categories. Oli Scarff was honored as the British Press Photographers' Association's press photographer of the year.
- Suzanne Sease features Jesse and the Red Balloon, the personal project of Anna, Jordan and Jesse Rathkopf. The project "is a collaboration with our son Jesse that delves into the profound impact of isolation on the mental well-being of young children during the pandemic. This photographic journey explores a child's perspective on a rapidly changing world and delves into how parents can create a sense of security amid uncertainty." Jesse's only companion as he wanders through the city is a big red balloon.
- Andrei Netto catches up with Sebastião Salgado as he turns 80. The photojournalist has "has witnessed wars, revolutions, coups, humanitarian crises and famine," he writes. "He has also seen some of the most pristine places on the planet -- locations and peoples untouched by the devastating fury of the modern world."
- In Apple Introduces Text-Based AI Photo Editor, Kehl Bayern reports on the company's MLLM-guided image editing "which can be applied to simple and more complex image editing tasks like modifying specific objects in a photo to make them a different shape or come off brighter."
- Adorama offers a Student or Educator Discount on its used equipment of six percent. Registration required.
