One of the hazards of publishing daily is that a certain time of day is precluded from anything else. So while we curate an Around The Horn for you six mornings a week, the sun rises in the sky to light scenes we never see.

But recently we did get out of the house with a camera before noon. And it was simply glorious.

We have a preference for shooting into the sun. It's as if the sky is a natural light box. Leaves and petals light up like neon signs.

That's precisely what we saw as walked through the neighborhood that morning. The low winter sun was blazing after all the flora were well watered by the recent storms.

We shot them with our Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm II R kit lens at ISO 200 in Aperture priority mode and various apertures. They were processed in Lightroom using Adobe Camera Raw, as we always do with our slide shows.

We have to apologize for not knowing these plants by name. A few, yes, but most, no.

Looking at them without captions, though, is no hardship. By any name, they would be as bright.
