In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the week, vintage hot rods, Insieme, mushrooms, another eye, a Lightroom Classic guide, pixels, a portfolio box, iPhone Macro Control, camera shutters and bokeh.
- The Associated Press showcases its Week in Pictures: Global curated by AP photo editor Pamela Hassell in New York.
- Lara Platman photographed the Vintage Hot Rod Races at Pendine Sands. "Equipped with her analogue camera, the British photographer captures both the historic cars, as well as the unique flair surrounding the event."
- Sophie Wright reviews Insieme ("together" in Italian), a new book by photographers Irina Rozovsky and Mark Steinmetz that is "a visual diary of a summer month spent exploring the Italian regions of Veneto and Puglia" in 2021.
- Astrid Kane went foraging for Edible Mushrooms with an expert in San Francisco's McLaren Park. And brought her camera.
- Harold Davis went to the eye doctor and came home to make another composite he calls Eye of the Artist.
- In Lightroom Classic (v13) Tips, Shortcuts and Quick Reference Guide, Julieanne Kost links to her free 36-page PDF (as do we).
- Do You Need More Pixels? Thom Hogan asks. "The question keeps coming up, but the answer is still yes.," he writes. More sampling is better than less, he explains.
- Kirk Tuck was going through some old stuff when he came across A Portfolio Box full of 13x18-inch prints.
- In iPhone 15 Pro Max -- Macro Control: Getting Up Close, Rad Drew explains how to use the feature and offers a few tips.
- Jim Kasson explains How Modern Camera Shutters Work.
- A Reddit poster asks, How Is Bokeh Formed?
